All so relatable! I loved reflecting more on the gifts of being highly sensitive. We don't celebrate them enough. The section on empathy reminded me that my friendships are gold to me and I put so much into them - one of the gifts I bring is being a highly attuned listener and supporter, always remembering to check in with people in my life.

Thank you, Susie. So much of what you say rings true for me. I've been lucky because as I age, I've been able to remain sensitive to others but also mediate its effects on me. This makes functioning easier.

Side note: My daughter is neurodivergent and she maintains her equilibrium by controlling her emotions. For her, my sensitivity (and emotionality) is unhealthy. For me, her control seems odd. So my relationship has taught me that everyone has super powers and kryptonite. When I'm with her, the idea of being more or less sensitive matters less to me because all I see is two people doing their best.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. ❤️

Wow, what an incredible article on what it's like to be an HSP. I can relate to everything shared here. We truly do absorb the energy of others - the pain, the joy and all that's in between. We feel it so deeply in our bodies and in our spirits. You've described this all so well. While living in an HSP body is a challenge at times, I wouldn't trade it. I love seeing the beauty that others often miss. Thank you for sharing your perspective Susie.

Your post ticks a lot of boxes, Susie; I can identify with pretty much everything you include here. It's both heartening and discouraging to learn how exhausting (and beautiful) living with HSP can be. ✨ The dichotomy continues...

This might sound a bit out there, but reading your article, Susie, I couldn't help but think about the concept of 'emotional gravity.' It's like HSPs have a stronger gravitational pull towards the emotional energy of others. It's both a gift and a challenge to navigate this heightened sensitivity, but it also offers a unique opportunity to create deeper connections and understanding.

I love this! Not 'out there' at all! I think probably mmost HSPs would understand this. (And many HSPs would not!)

Yes, and hard as it can be sometimes, I think the world would be too dull without experiencing it this way. I know it would from that time they put me on Zoloft and I turned into a zombie for two weeks.

I got better! ;)

Thank you for being a voice for all of us. Did you know we have 65% more neurons in our frontal lobe than neurotypicals? Yes, we experience life a LOT differently and we are meant to. We are the big picture thinkers, the dot connectors, the change agents on a society wide scale. And often it is exhausting and we get "le tired."

So let us nap in defiance. <3

Fantastic! With every discussion like this we generate, that hard road gets some pavement laid down, some saplings planted on the side, and maybe a round-about or two for good measure. ;)
