Yes, yes, yes! Giving myself permission to change my mind about how I'm doing something, even multiple times mid-task, makes the process and results so much less stressful and more satisfying. (I'm so sorry for the circumstances that required you to do so this time. It is insane and it needs to change.)

And thank you so much for the reminder that deep introspection is powerful, not just paralyzing. I am going to try your reflect-do-reflect framework.

Finally, as a Lake Superior gal, I love the great lake photo and video - big water is super special.

Thanks so much for sharing, Ann! It's always wonderful to hear from another Great Lakes gal--if you know, you know! Our minds have tremendous power, but just like the lakes, we have to respect that power and use it wisely. I hope you'll let me know how the framework serves you!

Your approach to self-regulation is so relatable. I, too, find solace in nature, and it's fascinating how you've incorporated it into your coping mechanisms. It's a gentle reminder that we all need to find what works for us and give ourselves permission to prioritize our well-being, especially during challenging times.

Thank you! Nature is such a balm to my soul. It sounds cheesy perhaps to people who don’t feel that oneness with nature, but I truly need that time to reset. I hope you can find (make) nature time for yourself, too!

I try to get out in nature as often as possible, and I have the Uintah mountains not too far from me. I would probably be a complete nutcase if I wasn’t able to get out in nature regularly!

That sounds lovely! I’d be the same if I couldn’t get outside, too. :)

Thank you for sharing about taking care of yourself and letting go of a Substack imperative that just doesn't fit this week. I have to give myself permission like this regularly (chronic migraine) and it helps me to hear how others work through it.

I so appreciate you sharing this, Carol, although it saddens me to hear that you deal with chronic migraines. I find it so easy to feel pressured to do things a certain way, rather than the way that’s possible for me at a given moment. But when I give myself permission to be true to myself, life is infinitely better. 🩵

What a very challenging week Lori, so sorry to hear of school threats. My heart goes out to everyone in the school community and to you. I hope writing this very clear and helpful post did help you ground and breathe, the lake looks so beautiful!

Thank you for your kindness, Sally! Writing always helps a bit, but getting outside afterwards really helped me turn things around. My heart still hurts, but I felt grounded. And yes, Lake Erie is gorgeous! I recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to go. 🩵
