I love that you ended with looking ahead to the "sequel" of your Substack journey! It feels like we’re all on this adventure together, figuring things out as we go. Your journey reminds me to be patient with myself, to celebrate the small wins, and to trust that the next chapter will bring its own surprises and growth. It also reminds me to stop focusing so much on a destination when it’s the journey that creates the change. It’s exciting to anticipate what’s next and to know that we all evolve in ways we couldn’t have predicted. I can’t wait to see where the road takes you next! Thank you for such an insightful and vulnerable reflection, Lori. You’ve given me so much to think about and so much hope as well. 🩵

I always feel so encouraged by you, Alex! Thanks for mirroring back to me that these things that can feel like problems—pacing that is slower than we desired, a destination that is far off or unclear—are really the ways that we learn and grow. It’s so easy to get distracted and derailed by our expectations, instead of allowing ourselves to flow. Here’s to all of us leaning into the journey! 💚

Lori, what a remarkable shift to connect with yourself as an advocate and let go of the pressure of wanting to be seen as a writer. This seems like the right organic match for you. Thanks for sharing your lessons from year one as a writer/advocate.

Double congrats on the big 5-0 and on posting weekly over 365 days! And yes, the hind sight of our stories has more clarity. Don’t you just love going back into your journals and asking, “Where was I a year ago?” Here’s to holding space for those who are misunderstood or have yet to tell their stories. Best to you,Lori.

Thank you- very true how looking back blurs all the edges to make life seem smooth and inevitable but tidying up this looking back can make us fear the adventure of uncertainty of the future-

Ooh, Sheila, I love that image of how hindsight blurs the edges. That’s a perfect description of how it feels! Thank you for offering that perspective. The next time I’m feeling all the edges of this moment, I’m going to remind myself that they’ll all wipe away eventually. 💚

First, congrats on turning 50 this year! It's a good age. I love the way advocacy grounds all of your work, including your writing. You call it dabbling, but I call it exploration, wanting to understand, and learning to tell your story. It's so inspiring.
